I first saw Jesus Really Said That? sitting on the buffet when we visited my mom last year. I didn’t read it at that time, but my husband did. He almost never reads anything, so that was impressive. He wanted to give it away to a few people recently, so we bought several copies, and that gave me the opportunity to read it for myself. This is a good book—but don’t read it if you don’t like having your toes stepped on.

Gary Miller has written a story to present five teaching of Jesus that are not commonly taught today. Jeremy and Alicia enjoy their church, the exciting programs, gripping preaching and wonderful worship. They are deeply grateful for the love and acceptance they found there when life seemed to be spiraling out of control. Now, though, as Jeremy reads his Bible, he discovers that a number of things that Jesus taught about don’t seem to be mentioned at church at all. Where is the truth? How can he reconcile what he sees in the New Testament with what his pastor says? And the more he studies, the more discrepancies he finds.

For example, when he reads that Jesus said to love your enemies. Jeremy was in the army for a few years; he knows how that works today, and, from history, what the Roman army in the time of Christ was like. How did the early Christians apply these words of Jesus in their lives? Jeremy studies the Bible, as well as the early Christian writings he has access to, to find out.

As you read this, you will be challenged. So many of the things we have been taught, either by our church or by the culture around us, are not Biblical, even though we might think they are. This very readable, short book will help you to see the teachings of Jesus in a clearer way.
