Title: What Really Happened to the Dinosaurs
Author: John Morris and Ken Ham
Major Themes: Creation, Dinosaurs, Flood, Picture Books, Ancient Times
Synopsis: Full-color paintings help tell the story of what dinosaurs are, where they came from, and what happened to them, from the Bible.
I have always enjoyed the “big books” that Master Books has published—large-format, hard-cover picture books on a variety of topics relating to Creation and how to know that the Bible is true. I just read What Really Happened to the Dinosaurs to my children to go along with a science course we have been using lately, and enjoyed it again.
With beautiful color paintings, John Morris and Ken Ham use the characters of Tracker John and his little sidekick, Dino Jr, or DJ, to tell young children the true story of dinosaurs. They start with what we know about dinosaurs and when God created them, and talk about why we don’t know much about them—it’s hard to know a lot about behavior and looks, from fossilized bones! The next section tells about how sin entered the world and changed everything, and the judgment God had to carry out on everything on earth. The final section describes the world after the Flood and talks about what may have happened to the dinosaurs at that point, and why they died out.
My children have not been overly interested in dinosaurs, but they did enjoy the pictures in this book. I like to read this sort of book occasionally, to help them know the true story and counteract what they might hear from other sources. This book is very attractive to children, especially those who love dinosaurs!
