Synopsis: What was the Flood like, and will Noah’s Ark ever be found?
Every morning as we begin our school day, I read aloud from several books. One type of books I’ve been reading from every day for the last couple of years is picture books that talk about various parts of ancient history. We have a number of these large-format hardcover books with beautiful pictures, but they sit on the shelf most of the time without getting read—what a shame! By going through them periodically with the children, they get a lot more use. We just finished Noah’s Ark and the Ararat Adventure, which was very interesting and fun. Most days, either my 8- or 5-year-old would make off with the book after I finished reading the day’s pages, and study the pictures for awhile while I read something else.
This book starts out talking about what the world was like in the beginning, before sin, and what it became after sin entered the picture. Then, it talks about the ark, the flood, and what Noah and his family found when they left the ark. Chapter 3 is where the book really gets interesting: Is the ark still in existence? Many people say they have found it—where is it? Two more chapters describe the search, and then a chapter talks about other archaeological discoveries in the Ararat area.
My children were very intrigued by the idea that the ark may still be on the mountain somewhere, and they had many questions about it. Noah’s Ark and the Ararat Adventure is profusely illustrated with drawings and photographs—one that children will spend a lot of time studying. This is a book that every child should have.
