I have always been interested in archaeology, and when Unearthing the Bible was recommended to go along with a course we were working through, I bought it immediately. We have been reading a couple of pages a day every morning as part of our homeschooling day, and I have found the book fascinating! It took about six months, but we finally finished it this week.

In this book, Titus Kennedy shares 101 archaeological discoveries that bring the Bible to life. He has the artifacts organized into eight chapters, each representing a time period. These go through the Bible in chronological order, from the very earliest times through the early church. Each chapter has several parts, each of which shows a clear color photo of a particular artifact, gives quick facts about it, and then describes the item and how it fits into the history from the Bible.

Some of the artifacts give generalized information—for example, they may be pieces of writing that contain names that we find in the Bible. This confirms that those names were used in that area, in that time. Other artifacts are very specific. For example, a stele found in modern Jordan names Mesha, king of Moab, and describes an incident which is also recorded in the Bible. One item we found really interesting was the toilet seat from Lachish.

As I said above, I found Unearthing the Bible very fascinating. The items described in this book help to confirm the accuracy of the Bible in many ways. We also enjoyed the glimpse into life in ancient times through the eyes of the people who lived at that time. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in ancient history or archaeology.
