Synopsis: In order to take up his dream job as pastor of the Chapelford church, Jesse needs to be married—is that possible in six weeks?
Oh, I love Chautona Havig’s books in the Marriages of Conviction series. Adoring April is much shorter than the other two, but every bit as good. It’s a nice short read when you want something easy, but has a lot of meat to it as well. It certainly begins with an interesting idea!
Jesse has finished his training to be a minister, and is searching for a church to serve. He does not want to serve in a mega church, despite the attractive offers he has been given, but feels like God wants him to serve in a small church. His favorite option is in Chapelford, Ohio, where his mentor, Mrs. Nesbit, lives. All goes well, he’s on the verge of being offered the job, and then a bombshell is dropped. They don’t want an unmarried minister. With seven weeks until he is to begin his dream job, what can he do about that requirement?
April is a new-ish Christian. She came from a broken family, and Mrs. Nesbit took her under her wing. Mrs. Nesbit has told April everything about Jesse, and she has been in love with this man she has never met for several years already. April loves children and wants to be a mother. Now, Mrs. Nesbit has proposed that Jesse and April get married so that Jesse will be allowed to pastor the church in Chapelford. April is ecstatic—but is it even possible to pull a wedding together in six weeks? And what about building a great marriage with that kind of foundation?
Once again, Chautona has taken a topic that I would find nearly sickening by most other authors (a rushed marriage), and made it into a wonderful story that I loved. Adoring April has a lot of good discussions about marriage and living for God. I highly recommend this book, and I hope Chautona writes more in this series.
