Title: My Big Book of Bible Heroes for Kids
Author: Glen Hascall
Major Themes: Bible Stories, Devotional
Synopsis: Forty-eight short stories focus on various character qualities that people in the Bible demonstrated.
I enjoyed reading through this Bible story book. Each of the 48 short chapters focuses on a different person in the Bible in a format I haven’t seen before. There are three pages for each person. The first page, with a picture, the character’s “address”, his or her special character quality, and a verse that illustrates that quality. Then, we have a page and a half of the person’s story retold from the Bible, and a few questions and closing comments to make applications to our own life. I enjoyed the fresh new way to look at so many familiar people in the Bible. Practically all of the people featured are very familiar, the people that all Bible story books mention, but I was surprised to find Shiphrah and Jochebed mentioned—do you know who they are? I knew the stories, but have rarely seen them mentioned, especially by name, in children’s books. Ezekiel, Jeremiah, the Good Samaritan, and Timothy are a few of the others you will read about.
I would like to have My Big Book of Bible Heroes for Kids in print to use for our morning Bible time. It would make a good devotional book to read together. I’m not sure my older children would appreciate it, but the younger ones would.
I received a free ecopy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
