The Story About Ping is one of the cutest picture books I’ve seen. It is something of a classic, with the first publication date being 1933. We bought this book for Esther back when she was about three years old, and I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve read it aloud over the years! It is looking well-loved. As it happens, though, it got put on a shelf and forgotten for a good while, but one of the advantages of Sonlight curriculum is that we get to read it for Kindergarten! I have just started doing Sonlight Kindergarten with my sixth child, so we got the treat of reading Ping again. He loved it, and so did the three-year-old.

Ping is a duckling who lives on a boat with two wise eyes on the Yangtzee River. He forages all day along the banks with his large family, but each evening when it gets dark they all go aboard the boat for the night. One evening, however, he does not go on the boat, and it sails away without him. He spends the next day searching for it and trying to escape various dangers along the river. The language used in this delightful story makes it pure fun to read, and the lovely pictures just make the story.

If you are wanting a picture book for your little ones that has stood the test of time, find a copy of The Story About Ping. You’ll want to own this one; don’t bother getting it from the library. It’s that good!
