Title: The Gift of Values – Volume One
Author: Rosie Boom
Series: The Gift of Values, book 1
Major Themes: Devotionals
Synopsis: Help your family to explore six values of a Christian life.
I don’t very often use a devotional guide like this one with my children, but I found it quite interesting to read through The Gift of Values and think about how I could work it into our routines. Rosie Boom is a gifted author and a delightful woman. She is a homeschool mother with six children. She wrote this book to share some of the inspiration she has had with other mothers.
There are six sections in the book, each one focusing on a different value. These values are honesty, positive attitudes, courage, diligence, perseverance, and obedience. Each section starts with a story—a once upon a time story to introduce the value. Next are some questions to help start a discussion about the week’s value. After that, Rosie suggests an activity or two to help children remember the value being discussed. Following that are quotes from famous people, and then Scripture verses about the topic. Next is the most fun part of the section—stories from Boom family life. Rosie is good at finding humor in everyday situations, and remembering funny things that happened. The last part of each chapter encourages children to dig deeper, to learn more about the week’s topic.
I appreciated all of Rosie Boom‘s wisdom, shared in The Gift of Values. She has a talent for sharing stories and encouragement. This book is a great springboard for having devotional times with the children. By working through everything in each section of the book, your children will remember that value for a long time.
