Title: The Case for Life
Author: Scott Klusendorf
Major Themes: Abortion, Human Life, Apologetics
Synopsis: What are the best ways to respond to pro-choice activists?
I rarely read apologetics books, but when I came across The Case for Life on my Kindle recently I decided to give it a try. I ended up finding most of it very easy to read and interesting. Though I know where I stand in the debate about abortion and life, it was good to be reminded of why I believe the way I believe, and how to respond to those who believe otherwise.
There are four parts to this book. The first is titled “Pro-Life Christians Clarify the Debate.” The four chapters in this section lay the groundwork, defining what the real issue is. What are the unborn? Are they human, or otherwise? Why are humans valuable?
Part two is titled, “Pro-Life Christians Establish a Foundation for the Debate.” This section is more general apologetics than specifically pro-life. The chapter of Foundations: Does God Matter? is quite long. It seeks to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is real, the Bible is true, and Jesus really did live and die and rise again. I found this chapter rather long and struggled to see its relevance to the rest of the book. That was probably just because I have read so much about this particular topic; for many people, it would probably be vital to understanding the real issues.
Part three, “Pro-Life Christians Answer Questions Objectively,” was the most useful part of the book to me. It deals with the most common excuses used to justify abortion and how to combat them. Part four, “Pro-Life Christians Teach and Equip,” wraps up the whole book with several chapters giving practical tips to make a difference in people’s lives.
The Case for Life is very helpful for all Christians in today’s world. We need to know why we believe that life is precious, when life begins, and how to respond to those who believe otherwise. This book will help to equip Christians to respond, and it will help all Christians to be grounded more firmly in the truth of God’s word as it relates to the controversy over abortion.
WARNING: Occasionally, an abortion procedure is mentioned.
