Title: Sounds All Around
Author: Wendy Pfeffer
Series: Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out Science 1
Major Themes: Sound, Hearing
Synopsis: Pictures and simple text introduce children to sound and hearing.
I have been amazed at how much my 3-year-old loves Sounds All Around. I’ve read it to him three or four times in the last few days—in other words, every time I sit down to read to him!
Sounds All Around mentions many different sounds we hear all around us, and tells where the sounds come from. My little boy doesn’t like to feel his throat to feel the vibrations when he talks, but the book tells about that. It also shows how sounds enter your ear, and how sound is measured. This is a wonderful first science book!
Note added later: I finally found out why my little boy wanted this book read so many times. It’s not that he liked it so well, but that he saw the picture, on the back cover, of another book in the series and kept hoping to find the rabbit and skunk in that picture, in the Sounds book!
