Major Themes: Christian Life, Faith, Finances, Money
Synopsis: Discover what the Bible has to say on the matter of faith and finances.
My daughter has been telling me for several years now to read Daring to Live on the Edge to the family. Now that I finally have, I know why. This is an incredible book, and very challenging. Written by the founder of YWAM, this book details the philosophy by which that organization is run.
As Christians, how are we supposed to view money? Is it evil? Should we avoid talking about it? No, the Bible mentions money many times. It must be a very important topic, then. Loren Cunningham challenges his readers with living a life of faith that God will supply our needs, and illustrates his points with many amazing stories from his life and the history of YWAM. He is not suggesting, by any means, that Christians just sit back and wait for God to provide; he tells us to listen to God and hear what He wants us to do in any given situation. Just because God provided in one way one time doesn’t mean He will do that again; it will probably be quite different next time.
Advice is given for people in many different situations in life—those who are in full-time ministry and need to be supported, as well as those who are working normal jobs and doing the supporting. One thing that really struck us as we read this story was the suggestion that each missionary find him- or herself a number of individuals to support him/her. Each of these individuals would be committed, not only to help the missionary financially, but also to support him/her in prayer. This prayer support is much more needed than finances, which is why Loren suggests having multiple people.
If you are at all interested in what God has to say about faith and finances, please read this book. You won’t regret it.
