Title: Courage and Conviction
Author: Mindy and Brandon Withrow
Series: History Lives series, Volume 3: Chronicles of the Reformation Church
Major Themes: 1500s, 1600s, Church History, Europe, New England
Synopsis: Fascinating stories open up the lives of many well-known leaders in the Reformation.
We enjoyed Courage and Conviction as much as we enjoyed the first two volumes in this series—Peril and Peace and Monks and Mystics. The lives of many famous people in the Reformation church are brought to life in these pages, along with short historical articles on a variety of topics relating to the church of that time. The stories take you all over Europe, from Switzerland, Germany and France to England and Scotland, as well as to the new English colonies in America. We see glimpses of Martin Luther and John Calvin, as well as Katherine Parr trying to save her life and the lives of her friends in Henry VIII’s court.
I highly recommend Courage and Conviction as a supplement to any study of the Reformation church. It seems to be well-researched and is well-written.
