Title: Box Turtle at Long Pond
Author: William T. George
Major Themes: Turtles, Picture Books
Synopsis: Box turtle has a very busy, adventurous day at Long Pond.
Box Turtle at Long Pond is a beautifully illustrated story about a turtle’s day. When box turtle wakes up, he sets off to find some food. Then he basks in the sun for a while, but when a rain shower comes through, he has to wait out the storm. Then he finds worms that have come out of the ground because of the rain—and just as he is ready to eat all of them, a raccoon tries to get him! Will he get away safely? Will he be able to get enough food for the day? I’ve always loved this story, partly because of the beautiful colors used in the painted illustrations, and partly because of the interesting story. I’m sure your youngsters will love learning about nature through this much as I did when I was younger!
