Title: The Savvy Solopreneur’s Guide to Content Creation: For Websites, Blogs and Newsletters
Author: Karen Banes
Series: The Savvy Solopreneur’s Guides, book 1
Major Themes: Business, Entrepreneurs, Marketing, Writing
Synopsis: Short, practical tips for how to write your own or curate content for your business from other resources, and thoughts on building your online platform.
After years of not reading much about writing, I’ve realized lately that I need to get back into the habit of studying my craft. There’s so much to learn on the topic of content creation and creativity, but one book I picked up that I found interesting was The Savvy Solopreneur’s Guide to Content Creation. Although this was geared toward a nonfiction market, and specifically for people running business blogs and websites, I found some good nuggets in here all the same.
Idea creation and generation are difficult things to do, but Karen shares a lot of tips for how to find what you need, or develop what you need. She shares different guidelines for how to develop useful content, including how each particular piece needs a purpose, how you need to be able to give freely, and how you need to be able to give value to others with everything you do. There are also sections of encouragement, too, and guidelines that could help you to create better content more frequently.
Though this guide is a short book, I felt like it had a lot of helpful resources, especially for solopreneurs/entrepreneurs who are in the business world and are trying to gain traction with their businesses. Personally, I didn’t feel like I found that much to apply to my life, because I’m more interested in personal blogging (instead of intentional sell-a-product blogging), and this book’s purpose was not to address that particular topic.
WARNING: Language in this book is pretty good, although it seems like I have seen stuff before I don’t appreciate from this author. The only place I noted in here was “h— yeah”, under the “Creating Original Content” section.
