Title: Fine Print
Author: Chautona Havig
Series: Meddlin’ Madeline Mysteries, book 3
Major Themes: Mystery
Synopsis: When challenged to solve a mystery, Madeline quickly realizes there’s more to a riddle than meets the eye—is she able to solve it before it’s too late?
Although I’ve been on Chautona Havig’s street team for over three years now, I’ve only read a few of the books she’s published over the years. This time, though, with Fine Print coming out, I knew I had to read it. Having read the previous two in the series, there was no way I was going to miss this one! And although it took me a couple weeks to get through, it was a lovely continuation. Perhaps not my most favorite of the series, but it’s another great book, one I’m thankful I got the chance to read.
When Madeline is asked to solve a mystery, she is excited to try her skill at something other than trying to prove a man guilty behind people’s backs. However, as she dives deeper into a grandfather’s treasure hunt for his grandson, the clues become twisted and almost misleading. She does manage to find out a lot of interesting facts, but the real answers prove elusive. Can she answer the riddles in the short amount of time she has to work on the project? What about the young man she’s working for—since he’s crippled and has few friends, she’d like to help make his life happier too. Is there any way she can get her friends to help him?
Although I didn’t find Fine Print very suspenseful, it was a delightful change from the normal heart-racing adventure found in a lot of books in the mystery genre. The spiritual depth in this book was also refreshing—seeing the Bible from new eyes, to a certain extent. I’m thankful the author didn’t force anything down the character’s throat—the gradual “awakening” that has been happening throughout this series is refreshing and beautiful. The mystery itself was superbly woven, and reminiscent of old-style children’s mysteries with hidden messages and secret passages in old houses. In all, this was a delightful read, and I can’t wait for book four!
Note: I was given a free copy of this book from the author, and chose to share my thoughts about it.
WARNING: A man’s past with different women is mentioned every now and again (very discretely). Chapter 29 has the word “blasted” in it.

Thanks for your lovely review! I can’t wait for the next. How’s she going to figure anything out in a letter? And under cover? Eeep!
Me either! Sounds like so much fun! For now…I’m (tortuously) waiting until I can get None so Blind reviewed so I can start Will Not See and finally, FINALLY read Ties that Blind! Can’t wait!! You’ve got several great series (what’s the plural of that? dunno) going right now!
