Title: Greetings from Next Door
Author: Chautona Havig
Major Themes: Christmas, Romance
Synopsis: When Clay moved into the house beside environmentally-aware Glyn with his monster truck and stole all her peace and goodwill, sparks flew—as well as annoying dreams of mistletoe.
After I read a sort of heavy book about a man who spent his entire life trying to find acceptance, peace, and healing, and while I was trying to wade through a serious book about farming practices and climate change, I wanted something light and fun to read in the evenings. Just at that time, my favorite author, Chautona Havig, finished Greetings from Next Door and offered her team free digital copies. Perfect! It took me several days to get through it because I’m still working through the book about cows saving the earth (yes, really—look it up!), so I only read this one late in the day.
Clay had barely arrived at his new house in Fairbury when his next-door neighbor, Glyn, wrote him a scathing note about how his obscenely large vehicle blocked her driveway! And so began an exchange of notes. Clay stole all the peace from Glyn’s life and the goodwill she had left toward men. On his part, Clay’s uptight new neighbor drove him crazy—both in good and bad ways. Pretty soon, both of them realized this would be the most memorable Christmas ever, at least if they survived the constant battles with each other, the weather that insisted on throwing terrible storms at them, and the flashbacks to past trauma that both had to deal with. And, on top of all that, both kept finding themselves, in the midst of irritation, thinking about mistletoe, of all things!
Greetings from Next Door is romantic comedy, Christmas romantic fiction, and epistolary fiction, all in one. It’s basically just romance, so not one of my favorite books, but it was perfect for a light, fluffy read when I wanted something I didn’t have to think about. When I’m winding down for bed at night, a book like this one is perfect for relaxation. Read it if you love Christmas fiction, or romantic comedy with a serious side. The thing I loved most about this one? The food Glyn cooked. Apparently, it tasted divine, but looked like it got hit by a car or something.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, and these are my honest thoughts about it.
