Title: For Mercie’s Sake
Author: Sharon Srock
Series: The Mercie series, book 1
Synopsis: A grieving widow and a young woman pregnant from rape are thrust together—can either of them help the other in any way?
I really enjoyed this novella. For Mercie’s Sake is a very sweet story of grief, love, and surrender. I did find it fairly predictable, but still lovely. Sometimes it’s nice to read a story that just leaves you feeling good!
Diana Kensington was teaching a class of teenagers at the Christian school. It had been precisely four hundred thirty-nine days since her husband said good-bye to her for the last time, and her loss still filled her mind every waking moment. Then one day, Scottlyn entered her class—pregnant. Such a thing had never happened at Eden Heights before—what was the principal thinking, allowing her in? Diana treated Scottlyn very coolly…until she heard the whole story that evening.
As Diana realized what she had done to Scottlyn, the thought popped into her mind, She needs your help. Diana couldn’t see what she, who still couldn’t eat more than a few bites of food at a time since losing her husband, could possibly do for a girl who was living with the trauma Scottlyn had and still was going through. God continued to prompt her, though.
As I said, the plot becomes very predictable, but I enjoyed seeing it unfold. Both Diana and Scottlyn found healing and new life as they worked together for Mercie—the baby Scottlyn was carrying. I was sad to see the story come to a conclusion, and would love to read the sequel someday soon!
