Title: Dolphin Adventure
Author: Wayne Grover
Major Themes: Dolphins, Diving
Synopsis: As Wayne was diving, he was approached by a family of dolphins who needed a fishhook removed from the baby’s tail.
Dolphin Adventure is a lovely true story. I just got to read it to my five-year-old, who said it was his favorite—and The Boxcar Children is his other favorite. “They get interestinger and interestinger,” he told me.
Wayne Grover tells the story of a dive he took off the coast of Florida, in the Gulf Stream. As he was swimming around, enjoying the beautiful sunny day and the fairyland around him 80 feet below the surface, a family of dolphins approached him. The baby was hesitant to come near a human, but his parents pushed him along. Wayne soon saw that the baby had a large fishing hook and line embedded in his tail, and the parents were asking for help for their baby.
Dolphin Adventure is a great story for new readers. The eight short chapters are told with simple, clear language, with lovely drawings illustrating it every few pages. Take a look at the sequel, Dolphin Treasure, as well!
