Title: Cross Shadow
Author: Andrew Huff
Series: Shepherd Suspense, book 2
Major Themes: Christian Fiction, Thrillers/Suspense
Synopsis: When Christine’s brother is accused of killing someone, can John and she find out the truth before it’s too late?
I knew this story would be interesting when I picked it up, but I think I’d forgotten just how gripping Huff’s books are. Cross Shadow is another excellent book in the series, and, following in the steps of A Cross to Kill, the first book, this one has a good amount of excitement in it. It also had an element I found fascinating—that of trying to find God’s will for our lives, and being willing to sacrifice something we want to figure that out. I came away thinking, as well as having had an entertaining read.
Christine’s half brother has been accused of murdering a man—and there’s video footage to prove it, as well as incriminating evidence on his phone. Christine, though, doesn’t think he did it—and she wants to get him out of prison as quickly as she can. When people start trying to track John and Christine, and life isn’t looking as safe as it once did, can they find the help they need to stay safe—and prove Philip’s innocence? And what does God really want them to be doing with their lives right now, anyway?
As with the first book in this series, I did struggle with the violence in this book to some extent. I understand why it’s there, but I still really wonder what the Lord would really have us do in situations like what John and Christine find themselves in. I don’t believe self-defense is right, and while they didn’t kill anyone, they didn’t mind severely injuring them. Just something for you to be aware of going into this book!
Cross Shadow is very interesting, and I found it hard to put down. Possibly even more so than the first book! The author does not slack in the excitement department, and even though I know it will all end up okay, there’s always the question of just how that will be pulled off. Especially when there are crazy drivers, like John Cross, at the wheel! This one also included a man who was (accidentally or otherwise) shot, so that made the escape even more harrowing—great fun for all adventure lovers. Like I said before, it does have a good thread about wanting to discover God’s will. There isn’t a lot—the mystery is the main point—but it is there. If you’re looking for an exciting, entertaining read, check Cross Shadow out. You might just enjoy it, as well as the first book in the series!
I requested a free review copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion of it.
